Don't you know that dreams come true! My 7-year-old dream came true yesterday when i finally got the chance to watch my childhood favourite, Westlife perform live yesterday. They sound as amazing and perfect as they are on album or anywhere else and that's something a lot of artistes lack these days thanks to the autotune. Absolutely loved their performance even though i really envy their stage at Croke Park (which was way more grand, but of course.. Since they were there to celebrate their 10th anniversary). It was my first time at a concert and it was an unforgettable experience. I had a lot of fun screaming and singing along to their songs. I knew the words to all the songs they sang and it felt really good to belt out along with the crowd. I didn't have the best people sitting beside me but i kindda told myself to not care and enjoy myself thoroughly since it's my one and only chance to do so. Westlife started their performance about 30 minutes later than planned, probably because people were still strolling in VERY SLOWLY. It was pissing a few of us off but when it finally started, many stood up from their seats (another thing that bothered me). I forgot the sequence of the songs they sang but my my... They were really good live. The live band were the bomb, but Westlife did very very well. I will be constantly amazed by their strong voices. Their voices are distinctively different from one another and i don't know...But whenever i hear Kian or Nicky's voice clearly, my heart just manages to skip a beat. Their voices are meant to harmonise, thus they are not often heard very clearly. Shane and Mark have the strongest voices so they belt out most of the notes. Kian and Nicky's are probably opposites because Nicky's voice is much thinner, however, when he does get the chance to belt out the notes, you can really see him shine. Even when he harmonises, you'll realise what a sweet voice he has. They sang all the songs as stated on the setlist of their tour (on wiki) and apparently sang the chorus of 'I Lay My Love On You' as a tribute to Singapore. They filmed part of the MV here in the Indoor Stadium (the scene where they played soccer). It was really sweet! Nicky kindda sang a line and the crowd continued with the chorus. I hope it touched them as it did touch me! The crowd was amazing (; When it boiled down to their very first song which kick-started their career, 'My Love', everyone sang along and i hope i wasn't the only one who cried. *Shy* That song holds a lot of meaning to me, what with it being the song that really made me fall in love with the lads! The lads also picked out lucky girls to go up on stage and let them sit there while they belted out notes to 'Beautiful Tonight' from their Gravity album. Totally owned every song they sang. It was superb! They also sang a medley comprising of Coldplay's Viva la Vida (best!), Black Eyed Peas' This Time, Rihanna's Only Girl in The World and Lady Gaga's Bad Romance. Did i mention that they danced to those songs and some of their own songs too? Hahaha! I love them but they still need work on their dance. But hey, they did pretty well ;P! They look so cute dancing because you don't usually expect ballad singers to dance while singing! They are an excellent quartet! For awhile after they disappeared, some people thought it was the end of the concert but they came back! The last song they performed for us was... jeng jeng jeng! UPTOWN GIRL! It's definitely up on my top 5 of their many songs. And boy, i was glad they performed it. AND DANCED TO IT! I was really looking forward to hearing Nicky and Kian sing in Uptown Girl because they really shine in this song. Don't get me wrong, i love Brian Mcfadden. He was my favourite before he left. But his departure gave Kian and Nicky more space to shine! (I really felt that it was a pity and a wrong move, Brian... Yes up till today) I won't touch on the negative sides of the concert. It had nothing to do with Westlife *coughTHEYWEREPERFECTHELLOcough*. I had a bad (not to the extent to say that it was terrible/horrendous/etc) experience with some inconsiderate concert goers. But who cares right? I totally psycho-ed myself to enjoy the performance because that's what i came for. Oh yes i forgot to mention some things! Nicky and Kian were very active on stage, taking photos and many many videos of the Singapore crowd. I hope they post it someday soon! We're all so eager to hear our screams, hahaha! Kian was really sweet because he whipped out his camera and requested us to call out to 'Twinkle', his unborn child. I think he's really excited to be a dad. And it seems like the lads are really behind him and it was really heartwarming to see them so close as a band. I hope they stay this way forever. My image of them since i was 7 has never changed one bit. If anything, it has only gotten better. Nicky has been my favourite lad since Brian left and yesterday, it only further proved why. He was such a cheeky lad on stage! Apart from his voice, he really does have a very cheery and bubbly personality. Of course, i love the rest too. They're really good singers and i hope they continue making good music. My brother went there with a few friends and he kindda told me he preferred their older songs. I do too, but their newer songs are not too bad! I actually enjoy at least 3/4 of the albums they put out as compared to 1 or 2 songs from other artistes. But it was also comforting to know that he likes Westlife! It's always good to know that there are still people who love their music! My dad actually thought they stopped singing :( They need to do more promotions here! Anywhoooo, i really did enjoy myself last night. It truly felt like a dream come true and despite the fact that i didn't have great company, it was still a memorable experience. I didn't chase after the lads but the concert was enough. Once in a lifetime. A 13-year wait and a 7-year-old girl's dream finally came true. Wish fulfilled. I went to class still pretty hyped today. Everytime my classmates asked me how the concert was, i'll light up and go crazy... I'm sure it'll die in a few days... or weeks... or months... or... Neverrrrrrrrr! :) Now, back to reality! Got to start studying for my 4 papers. Bro was quite encouraging yesterday on our way home. He keeps telling me that i can do it. I hope i won't disappoint him OR my parents. InsyaAllah. |
